PEG (Full set)
Gastrostomy Endoscopic Tubes (PEG) are placed inside the stomach for patients who require long-term tube feeding, are unable to consume food orally, or have a reduced risk of aspiration.
Gastrostomy tubes are categorized into three primary groups: Percutaneous Endoscopic Gastrostomy (PEG) tubes, Low-profile gastrostomy tubes, and Standard gastrostomy tubes.
PEG tubes are typically used as the initial method of enteral nutrition delivery, inserted into the stomach through a gastroscopy procedure. Gastrostomy tubes (PEG) are specifically designed for insertion into the stomach using a gastroscopy. The distal end remains within the stomach while the other end of the catheter exits through a surgically created incision in the abdominal wall.
The primary PEG tube consists of a large stoma (ranging from 14 to 24 French in size), a thin wall, and a mushroom-shaped distal tip. Percutaneous Endoscopic Gastrostomy (PEG) tubes, particularly those inserted through the skin, are suitable for long-term feeding in patients who are at risk of surgical complications.
